Walking outpaces pick-up trucks during fair week

Fryeburg Academy's gym burnt down a couple years ago. The campus looks great these days. Especially as an alternative route to get to the ever popular Fryeburg Fair. (Check it out 'til Sunday nite)

Pietree Orchard, fit for Kings

My article, Pietree

Kings of Horror that is. According to Margaret Morehouse, Pietree Orchard in Sweden, Maine, was "bought by family" from the McSherry's who'd owned it for 73 years. Unfortunatly, Margaret's last name doesn't give a hint to who her sister is: Tabitha King, wife of writer Steven King.

At the crest of a hill on Waterford road, the view at Pietree is amazing. I visited with some friends the other day, and we walked through the orchard--in its first year of a three year organic certification--and made gurgling, horror-type noises from behind the apple laden branches.

Below, Scott Miller, the "apple doc" and farm manager, shows me how to graft a tree.

Nascar in Scarborough

Timber Tina's boyfriend lives near Scarborough Downs and the Nascar racetrack. Prime location, especially if you love that whine like the contents of a circling beehive floating through the otherwise fall air.
