NH Bike Week

OVERHEARD
Lisping woman says to her small son at the Conway Walk-in Clinic, Conway, NH:

"I hope it's nice tomorrow. I don't care about bike week, but I just feel bad for 'em when it rains. Some of 'em look forward to it all year, it's like Christmas to 'em." Her son stares out the window. "I'd be scared to death to go though," she adds contemplatively. "Used to be so rowdy."

The Dry Spells

The members have changed a bit since the beginning, but it seems like just yesterday we were all sharing six Mike's Hard Lemonades between ten of us, in a pastoral gazebo next to the river. I guess now, thinking about it, it wasn't.

Val and Sal of Conway, NH

“I’ve done homework in some ridiculous places,” says Katie Gustafson, Kennett High School’s Valedictorian. “Once I studied for a German test while I was helping as a stage hand at a play and I actually missed a prep cue."...(more) PS-- phrase "the yin and yang of it all" was just one of the many editor's choices with this little ditty.

Another Senior Smarty Pants

This is Molly. She got a newspaper interview (PDF page 2) not because she was top of her class, but because her real mother is a drug addict, and she's the first in her family to attend college (UPenn).

Guatemala leaves Casio with Virus

Today I was busy taking photos of Kennett High School's valedictorian and salutatorian (headed to NYU and Princeton, respectively)when my poor old camera went fuzzy. It might be the end of the Casio, as we know it. All fingers crossed in the warrenty department...
