Two weekends in June

My roommate Gert visited Karlovy Vary last weekend. We sampled the famous hot mineral waters with the special cup-with-built-in-straw. You can petrify objects in these springs--Michal's baby shoe for instance.
And a trip to Hauenštejn Castle. (Horní Hrad in Czech. Horní means "upper"--not what you think :)) June is rarely sunny here. But the burgeoning green in the forests around KV remind me that there must be some kind of chlorophyl revival going on.

2010 NH Hair Show

I've been waiting to post this for months! My home state hosts an annual "vegas-like" hair show every spring, with money donated to the NH Food Bank. Check out photos of the winners on their very own International Fantasy Hair Competition Facebook profile!

Minaret, Brno, Grade School

After viewing the Lichtenstein Minaret, we stopped in Brno for an hour to walk around. It's the next biggest city after Prague, but feels like a large suit with only a few, small bones knocking around inside. Although there was a large crowd in a gazebo by the castle church, boozing it up, looking a little worse for ware.

Last pic is the Grade School where Michal cast his vote. Only thing I retained from the recent Czech election results is that one of the winning party members wore a neck brace in the billboard photo.

Mikulov

The garden of plenty, the southern hemisphere in a northern climate, the apple of your eye! Moravia (southern CZ) in the early summer is a rush of green, mold smelling wine cellars, real sun! We were there a few weeks ago, biking by endless vineyards, watching tiny boys dressed up in shorts and hats compete in traditional singing and dances and sleeping in the car (oooh. wished we hadn't). Life is slower, the accent different, and the town of Mikulov sits below a crop of rock made out of compacted seashells. Yes folks, central europe once was the Mediterranean sea!

Also was trying out 160 speed film. Sometimes it looks extra grainy.

Václav and Marie

These are Michal's maternal grandparents. It was sometime after Easter, they came up the road after rambling in the fields looking for daffodils and marsh grass. Marie is especially active, and perhaps she brings her husband with her for the simple purpose of carrying things....
